MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit near the waters off Burgos, Surigao del Norte, on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The temblor occurred at 4:47 p.m. and was located 34 kilometers northeast of Burgos.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin, with a depth of focus of four kilometers.

Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity II: Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
- Intensity I: Abuyog, Leyte
