DepEd probes into death of pupil after falling into school’s septic tank

MANILA, Philippines — Investigations are underway for the case of a pupil who died after falling into a septic tank while she was at her school, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Wednesday.

According to DepEd Undersecretary Michael Poa, the DepEd is working with local authorities to look into the tragedy.

“Pagdating sa DepEd, we are coordinating actually with the local police doon sa investigation. The PNP is also conducting its own investigation para malaman kung ano ba talaga ang nangyari dito,” Poa said in an interview with reporters.

Meanwhile, Poa said the department will also see whether or not school administration has any liabilities as a result of the girl’s death.

Reports from the police on Tuesday said the incident happened in Sinaliw Malaki Elementary School in Cavite City after noon.

While the girl and three of her schoolmates were eating lunch, the ground collapsed, making them fall into the tank.

Aside from the girl’s death, the three schoolmates were also injured.
