MANILA, Philippines —The Visayas grid was placed under  yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said in an advisory.

A yellow alert is issued “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

The NGCP said the yellow alert in Visayas is effective from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It also disclosed that the peak demand for the region is expected to reach 2,652 megawatts (MW), while the available capacity is 2,946 MW.

“The addition of yellow alert intervals is due to the increase in demand forecast, forced outage of PDPP3-E and VMCI, and deration of Leyte A,” the NGCP said.
