A FARMER and a 21-year-old man were killed in separate shooting incidents in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu.
Romeo Corpuz, 58, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while he was walking home in barangay Campo 7 past 7 p.m. last Monday.
Police said Corpuz, a native of Manila, had a gunshot wound in the head when he was found in a hilly area about 500 meters from a friend’s house where he had a drinking session with friends earlier.
Police are still investigating the motive for the killing.
In barangay Poblacion, Jessie Rico was shot dead outside his house by a neighbor, who fled after the attack.
Rico succumbed to four gunshot wounds in the body.
An operation to arrest Armand Orellano, 27, a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver, is in progress, said police.
Police said that around 8 p.m. last Monday, Orellano went to the victim’s house to confront him after he allegedly tried to maul the suspect’s father.
At the house of the Ricos, Orellano was told by the victim’s father that his son was not around.
Rico’s father told police that he heard bursts of gunfire and later found his son bloodied outside their house.
Rico suffered gunshot wounds in the neck, armpits and chest. He was declared dead at the Minglanilla District Hospital. /REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL AND CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
