LUCENA CITY — Three elderly passengers died, and two others were injured on Sunday after their car hit a concrete post along the national highway in Luisiana town in Laguna province.

The Region 4A police said in a spot report that a Toyota Wigo driven by Criselda Paderas Casa, a resident of Tanay, Rizal, was traversing the Lucban-Luisiana national road in Barangay San Antonio at around 6 p.m. and was heading toward Lucban town in Quezon province when it figured in the accident.

Police said the vehicle swerved to the opposite lane and bumped into a concrete post on the roadside.

Casa and her four passengers, who were unnamed in the report but described as 60 to 70 years old, suffered grave injuries.

Two of the passengers died while being taken by rescuers to Luisiana District Hospital.

Casa and two other passengers were brought to Laguna Provincial Hospital in Sta Cruz town, but one passenger was declared dead on arrival.

Casa and another one remained unconscious at the hospital, the police said.

Police were conducting further investigations.
