All systems go for Gullas Cup tennis

SOME of the best tennis players from Cebu and around the region will gather at the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. (CITCI) from May 21 to 25 for the 17th Gullas Cup.

The tournament, one of the biggest and longest junior tennis tournaments in Visayas and Mindanao, was started by Jose “Dodong” Gullas and his brother representative Eddie Gullas 17 years ago.

It will be held for the first time at the eight courts of the CITCI in Laray, Consolacion.

According to John Pages, playing at CITCI allows more matches to be played in the same period of time.

No games will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to protect the players from the excessive heat.

Registration fee is pegged at P300 inclusive of a shirt and a dinner party at the gym of Bright Academy on May 23.

Deadline of registration will be this Friday.

Categories to be contested are 10-and-under unisex, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under boys and girls. A player can play in two categories.

Category champions will go home with 120 points as the event is a group 2 Philippine Tennis Association-sanctioned tournament.

Awarding ceremony will be held on May 25 with Johnvic Gullas as special guest.
