LUCENA CITY — Three fake police officers were arrested on Saturday, May 18, for alleged extortion in Cainta town in Rizal province.

In a report, the Region 4A police said local cops collared “Ericsson”, “Daryl”, and “Rafael” in an entrapment operation in Barangay (village) San Andres at around 5 a.m.

The police action was prompted by a complaint by one “Mr. Leal” that the suspects who introduced themselves as police officers informed him in a text message that they arrested his friend “Shin” for illegal drugs.

The suspects demanded P8,000 for the release of Shin and the non-inclusion of Mr. Leal in the drug case as Shin was caught carrying his (Mr. Leal) mobile phone.

The target victim reported to the police who initiated an entrapment operation which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

The report said that on May 17, the complainant asked Shin to buy snacks. He gave his mobile phone to facilitate the payment using his GCash that is encoded on the phone.

Investigation revealed that Shin did not return and instead planned the extortion scheme with the other suspect.

The arrested suspects were detained and are facing the corresponding criminal charges but Shin was able to escape.

The police launched a manhunt operation to arrest Shin.
