Metro Manila, 34 other areas seen to have ‘dangerous’ heat index

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and 35 other areas in the country nationwide are expected to have dangerous levels of heat index on Monday, according to the state weather bureau.

The heat index under the “danger” category ranges from 42°C to 51°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said its station in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay and Science Garden in Quezon City are seen to record a heat index of 43°C and 42°C, respectively.

The 34 other areas to reach ‘danger’ heat index level are as follows:

  • Aparri, Cagayan – 47°C
  • Dagupan, Pangasinan – 46°C
  • Tugegarao City, Cagayan – 46°C
  • Roxas City, Capiz – 46°C
  • Guian, Eastern Samar – 46°C
  • Laoag, Ilocos Norte – 45°C
  • Echague, Isabela – 45°C
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo – 45°C
  • Bacnotan, La Union – 44°C
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 44°C
  • Puerto Princesa, Palawan – 44°C
  • Cuyo, Palawan – 44°C
  • Dumangas, Iloilo – 44°C
  • Batac, Ilocos Norte – 43°C
  • Baler, Aurora – 43°C
  • Aborlan, Palawan – 43°C
  • Virac, Catanduanes – 43°C
  • Catarman, Northern Samar – 43°C
  • Catbalogan, Samar – 43°C
  • Butuan City, Aguan del Norte – 43°C
  • Sinait, Ilocos Sur – 42°C
  • Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya – 42°C
  • Iba, Zambales – 42°C
  • Casiguran, Aurora – 42°C
  • Subic Bay, Olongapo City – 42°C

Heat index in those areas may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke during continued exposure, according to Pagasa.
