Discount for health workers, teachers sought
Quirino Rep. Midy Cua is pushing for all licensed health professionals and teachers to be given a 10 percent discount in drugstores, hospitals, dental clinics, public transport, lodging establishments, restaurants, and recreation centers. In House Bills No. 10291 and 10296, which seek the incentive separately for health workers and teachers, Cua said the discount was in recognition of their hard work and service to the country. “Our health professionals directly work to promote public health and ensure the well-being of our countrymen,” she said in HB 10291. “In consideration of the daily risks they are exposed to, there is the opportunity to ensure that they too are looked after.” In HB 10296, or the proposed “Teacher Discount Act,” Cua said the measure seeks to “recognize the indispensable role of licensed teachers, whether in public or private educational institutions. The bills seek to provide medical and health workers and teachers a 10 percent discount on medicine and other essential medical supplies; medical and dental fees and services; public transportation fees; air and sea travel fares; lodging services; restaurant and recreation center charges; as well as funeral and burial services. — JEANNETTE I.
