Families affected by El Niño get over P101-M worth of aid from DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Friday that it has distributed more than P101-million worth of aid to families affected by the El Niño.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Friday that it has distributed more than P101-million worth of aid to families affected by the El Niño.

According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the agency gave out food packs to those in provinces affected by drought.

“This is through Family Food Packs or FFPs dahil nga po ito yung immediate na pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan na naapektuhan ng severe drought as a result of the El Niño phenomenon,” Dumlao said.

(This is Family Food Packs or FFPs because this is the immediate need of our fellow countrymen affected by the severe drought as a result of the El Niño phenomenon.)

In addition, the DSWD said that 737,900 families, or more than three million individuals, were affected by the El Niño in 13 regions nationwide as of Friday.

“Concerned local government units (LGUs) and other partners have also extended assistance to the affected families. Based on the latest report of our Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center, LGUs across the country have provided assistance amounting to P6.2 million while other partners have given P5.4 million worth of aid,” Dumlao added.

Meanwhile, the agency added that it has prepared 178,400 FFPs amounting to more than P121.6 million nationwide.

It added that it is maintaining P3.2-billion worth of supplies to be used for emergencies.
