MANILA, Philippines — The state seismologist reported a grassfire Thursday evening at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island.
“Ongoing grassfire at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island (right) since 6:40 p.m., 2 May 2024, in the area where DOST-PHIVOLCS’ Binintiang Munti Observation Station (VTBM) is situated,” said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in its Facebook post around 11:30 p.m.

However, Phivolcs noted that a grassfire “frequently occurs” in the VTBM.
It added that the same incident also occurred last year.
Just last March 4, a grassfire was also reported in the VTBM, but no damage was reported.
Taal Volcano remains under alert level 1 based on Phivolcs’s latest advisory.
