MANILA, Philippines — Workers should enjoy quality benefits for them and their families, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Wednesday.

According to DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma in his Labor Day message, the day reminds people that through unity and camaraderie, Filipino workers can attain their goals.

(This important day reminds us that through unity and camaraderie, the dreams and goals of the Filipino worker, as well as his family can be fulfilled.)

He identified these goals: “Sariling bahay at lupa, edukasyon para sa kanilang mga anak, dekalidad na trabaho, abot-kayang bilihin, at payapa at ligtas na pamayanan.”

(Ownership of house, education for their children, quality work, affordable commodities, and a peaceful and safe community.)

(That is why, as a reliable partner in progress, it is important they and their families must be able to take part and enjoy the fruits of progress and the betterment of our country’s economy.)

The labor chief also reminded employers to be compassionate towards their employees and that the DOLE will continue to serve both employer and employee.

(This is also a message for our employers and manufacturers to continue to show compassion and love their workers.)

(With this, the department will continue to guarantee that it will serve the employer and employee speedily and fairly.)

May 1 or Labor Day was declared a holiday by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
