MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Labor Day told the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to address underemployment by teaching in-demand skills.
During his Labor Day speech in Malacañan Palace, Marcos said that the government will continue to upskill and reskill workers with the help of the private sector.

“I have directed DOLE to prioritize addressing underemployment by promoting training in skills that the local and international labor markets need and ensure that there is placement for those who are going to be trained,” said Marcos.
Marcos touted the signing of several government measures to address underemployment, including the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act.

“We are very serious about enhancing the skills of all Filipino workers, marking them job-ready for the technical and digital jobs that would be opened through the investments that we have secured,” said Marcos.

DOLE was also ordered, together with the Department of Migrant Workers, to strengthen coordination when it comes to the reintegration of overseas Filipino workers once they return to the country.
