Barzaga served as representative of Cavite’s second district from 2007 to 2010 and was fourth district congressman from 2010 to 2016 and then in 2019 until his passing. He was mayor of Dasmariñas City from 1998 to 2007 and from 2016 to 2019.

According to Romualdez, members of the House usually turned to Barzaga, a certified public accountant and lawyer, for legal advice and some guidance through the numbers in the national budget.

The Barzaga family announced the lawmaker’s death on Saturday. He is survived by his wife, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga and sons Kiko, Third and Enzo.
