Tacloban Airport on shortened operating hours from May 2 – August 2

Shortened hours for Tacloban airport May 2 - august 2 for runway repairs

MANILA, Philippines — Tacloban Airport (Daniel Z.Romualdez Airport) will implement shortened operating hours from May to August due to scheduled maintenance repairs on its runway, said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Friday.

The CAAP, in a statement, said the operating hours of Tacloban Airport will be shortened to 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from May 2 to August 2.

“As a result, the airport’s original operating hours, from 4:30 in the morning to 8:30 in the evening, will be shortened. Sunrise-sunset operations will take place, while repairs will be carried out at night,” said CAAP.

“This schedule allows ample time for the asphalt to cure before the first-morning flight traverses the runway. The repair is also being expedited in anticipation of the onset of the rainy season,” it added.

CAAP said the repairs will impact 12 flights operated by three airlines to and from Manila daily.

A notice to airmen (NOTAM) has already been issued on April 24, with CAAP adding that measures are already in place to facilitate the runway scheduled maintenance, including asphalt overlay.

The NOTAM will be effective for three months but may be immediately lifted if the runway repair is completed ahead of schedule.
