LIST: Suspended on-site classes on Friday, April 26

MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — Amid “dangerous” forecast heat indexes, numerous local governments suspended in-person classes on Friday, April 26.

According to the state weather bureau, high heat indexes exceeding 42 degrees Celsius may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke during continued exposure.

Below is a list of suspended face-to-face classes on Friday:

Metro Manila

No class suspensions were announced in Marikina City, Makati City, and Taguig City.

In Valenzuela City, classes automatically revert to online classes once the heat index reaches 42 degrees Celsius, according to Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

Calabarzon

Cagayan Valley

Central Luzon

Zamboanga Peninsula

Heat index measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to the combined effects of the temperature and air humidity.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration declared the start of the summer season in March.

El Niño, or the weather phenomenon that increases the prospect of below-normal rainfall conditions, is also prevailing in the country.
