LUCENA CITY — Two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels operating in the Sierra Madre mountain range surrendered to police in General Nakar, Quezon on Wednesday, April 24.
The Quezon police, in a report on Thursday, April 25, said rebel returnees “Lawin” and “Antet” turned themselves in around 6:30 p.m. to the police detachment in Barangay (village) Anoling at the base of Sierra Madre.
The two former communist guerrillas also surrendered a caliber .38 revolver with four bullets and assorted bomb-making equipment.
The former NPA rebels, both natives of the locality, used to operate in portions of northern Quezon, Laguna and Rizal provinces.
Quezon was declared free from the influence of communist insurgents in June last year.
The rebel returnees will be given assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip), which offers free medical treatments, education, housing, and legal aid to rebels who surrender to the government.
