MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was elected as a Vice-Chair of the Asia Pacific Group of the United Nations (UN) Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD).
DOST Undersecretary Leah Buendia attained the position during the CSTD’s 27th session from April 15 to 19 in Geneva, Switzerland, according to a release of the DOST on Wednesday.

Buendia called on her colleagues to cooperate for the benefit of developing countries and for vulnerable sectors.
Build trust
“We need to build trust and we can only do that if we have fair and just mechanisms. Let us continue helping each other, especially the developing countries and the vulnerable sectors,” Buendia said.
The CSTD is the UN’s arm for science, technology, and innovation, which aligns them into its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
It also has five regional groups, including the Asia Pacific group, with 43 member states. The Asia Pacific group has nine member states.
