MANILA, Philippines — Three areas are expected to hit the highest heat index on Sunday (April 21) at 44 degrees Celsius (°C), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa’s forecast said these areas are Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aborlan, Palawan; and Roxas City, Capiz.
According to the state weather service, a 42 to 51°C heat index falls under the “danger” category and would likely cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat or sun exposure.
Aside from the three areas, Puerto Princesa, Palawan and Guiuan, Eastern Samar, are also expected to experience extreme heat at 43°C.
Meanwhile, below are 10 areas that are expected to experience a danger level heat index at 42°C:
Bacnotan, La Union
Aparri, Cagayan
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
Iloilo City, Iloilo
Dumangas, Iloilo
Catarman, Northern Samar
The state weather service announced the arrival of the summer last March 23, signaling the end of the amihan or prevailing northeast monsoon, which had brought lower temperatures across the country.
