Seameo veteran named to CHEd vacancy

A former director of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (Seameo) has taken over the post of ousted commissioner Mark Libre, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) announced on Friday.

Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela, who is also a lecturer at the University of the Philippines Diliman, will replace Libre who was sacked in January for appointing relatives in government posts under his direct supervision.

Valenzuela has a master’s degree, in science education from the Philippine Normal University and a doctorate in education from the De La Salle University in Manila.

She finished her undergraduate studies at the Divine Word College of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro.

CHEd chief Prospero De Vera said Valenzuela’s two-decade experience in higher education and her recent work at Seameo, the Bangkok-based intergovernmental organization on education in the region,” would pave the way for new programs and implementation of existing policies. —KATHLEEN DE VILLA
