LUCENA CITY — Two children died on Thursday, April 18, when a fire of still unknown origin gutted their shanty in Silang town in Cavite province.
In a report Friday, the Police Regional Office (PRO 4A identified the victims as Rhian Barrientos, 4, and her younger brother, Rhyle, 3.
The report said the victims were trapped inside their shack in Barangay Biluso when it caught fire at around 3 p.m.
The mother of the victims, Geraldine, 22, told investigators that she left the victims inside their house to gather firewood.

When she returned, she found their shanty burning with the children still inside. The local fire department responded and declared the blaze under control at 4:15.
The bodies of the victims were recovered by firemen inside the shack room during the clearing operation.
Police did not provide information on the whereabouts of the other family members when the fire broke out.
The authorities were conducting further investigations. INQ
