Free LRT-2 rides for solo parents on April 20

MANILA, Philippines — Solo parents may avail of free train rides at Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) during selected hours on Saturday, April 20, in celebration of National Solo Parents’ Day.

Single parents only need to present their Solo Parent’s Identification Card or Solo Parent Certificate of Eligibility to train station personnel of the two rail line to enjoy the free train rides from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said: “Ayon sa pamunuan ng LRTA, ang libreng sakay sa LRT-2 ay para makapagbigay ng inspirasyon sa mga solo parent na mag-isang itinataguyod ang kanilang pamilya.”

(According to the management of LRTA, the free rides on LRT-2 are intended to inspire solo parents who single-handedly support their families.)

Republic Act No. 11861, or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, declares every third week and third Saturday of April as Solo Parents Week and National Solo Parents’ Day, respectively.

This celebration is to commemorate the role of every single parent in the country.
