MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos said she knew “what line not to cross” regarding her sister-in-law, Sen. Imee Marcos.

In an exclusive interview on Tune-in Kay Tunying aired on Friday, she alluded to possible tensions with the senator. She was asked about Imee Marcos not defending President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid controversies.

“Maybe you should ask her. I’m just the outlaw; I know what line not to cross,” Araneta-Marcos said.

According to the first lady, the Marcos family has a weekly Sunday lunch together, which Imee Marcos has been unable to attend as of late.

“Once nga my mother-in-law said, ‘Hija, you did not invite Imee to these.’ Mom, me? We have a group chat where we are all included,” Araneta-Marcos said in a mix of English and Filipino.

“She’s always invited,” she added.

Imee Marcos has openly criticized her brother, frequently playing the mediator between the Marcos and Duterte families.

In the same interview, Araneta-Marcos did not hide her disdain for Vice President Sara Duterte’s behavior during the Davao political rally that her family organized in January. During the rally, former president Rodrigo Duterte called Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a drug addict. Liza Marcos said Sara Duterte was seen laughing at those remarks.

“For me, I got hurt because my husband will do everything to protect you. You ran together, ‘di ba; we will rise again together, then you go to a rally where the president is called a drug addict. Is that right? Even Leni never did that,” she said.

Araneta-Marcos also said she was “always kind” to Sara Duterte, her husband’s running mate in the 2022 presidential elections.

Asked if there was any hope of reconciliation between her and Sara Duterte, she said: “Bad shot na ’yan sa akin [She’s now in my bad graces].”
