MANILA, Philippines — A two-year old dog who was trapped behind a wall in Cavite was looking for a new home after being rescued.

Wally, who was abandoned by his owners when they moved out of their apartment building in Dasmariñas City, was found trapped in a wall, as shown by the footage of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Asia’s uploaded on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

The dog was left to languish “for approximately a month” only surviving by drinking water from an open canal, according to Peta Asia’s press release.

Authorities then proceeded to break the wall to retrieve Wally, who Peta Asia said “was emaciated and covered in wounds from trying to free himself.”

The animal rights group then provided veterinary assistance to the dog.

“Wally has gained weight and is waiting to be adopted by caring guardians who would never even think of abandoning him to fend for himself,” it said in a statement.

Wally’s plight came into light as several instances of animal abuse made headlines.

In March, a golden retriever named Killua was killed in Camarines Sur. A man was seen hitting Killua as the dog was running around, trying to escape.

In Dasmariñas City, several cats were left to starve in a village pound, with some of the felines resorting to cannibalizing each other also last month.
