MANILA, Philippines—A teenager enjoying a few drinks at a birthday party was gunned down by an elderly neighbor on Sunday night in Quezon City.

The victim, 17-year-old Eugene Jake Dalusong, reportedly worked as a carwash helper in their neighborhood in Barangay Sauyo, Novaliches.

Case investigator SPO1 Joselito Gagaza said they are now looking for suspect Bernard Miranda alias Akong, 65, who fled after the shooting.

The incident happened at 7:45 p.m. at the house of James Paracruz on Lagkitan Street, Dalnacia Village in Barangay Sauyo.

Both Dalusong and Miranda were guests at Paracruz’s birthday party although the two males were drinking with their respective friends in separate groups.

Paracruz’s brother, Jaycie, told police he was with Dalusong when he saw an allegedly drunk Miranda approaching them.

The suspect suddenly pulled out a gun and allegedly shot the victim at close range.

Jaycie tried to help Dalusong get up but saw Miranda train his gun at him. The shot fortunately missed Jaycie.

Miranda fled the birthday bash as Dalusong was rushed to the Bernardino Hospital.

The teenager died at 9:30 p.m. while being treated for a gunshot wound in his neck.

Gagaza learned from Dalusong’s friends and relatives that the suspect and Dalusong had never been in conflict before. On the other hand, the family alleged that Miranda had a reputation as a street toughie in their community.
