“As the country experiences one of the warmest summers brought about by El Niño, Manila Water ensures adequate water supply to hospitals and schools in its concession area,” Manila Water’s Corporate Communications Affairs Director Jeric Sevilla said in a statement.
“Together with the national government, we take public health and safety as our prime concerns. Especially now that our kids have classes during the summer, schools need more support from the company,” he added.
According to Sevilla, the water company is currently providing uninterrupted water supply to 173 public and 210 private hospitals, 916 public and 999 private schools in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal province.

Furthermore, he said the water provider has also implemented a measure to refurbish water lines and provide technical assistance on repairs of internal reticulation systems in low-income communities.
Manila Water made this pronouncement amid increasingly high temperatures in the country.
The heat index, which is defined by the state weather bureau as “a measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself,” has also consistently hit over 42 degrees Celsius in several areas across the country.
Some local governments have suspended on-site classes due to the rising heat index.
