OWWA sets Arabic language seminar

THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Central Visayas (OWWA-7) will hold a three-day Arabic language, culture familiarization and stress management seminar for household service workers (HSWs) twice a month starting May 23-25 at the OWWA seminar room.

This is a requirement for HSWs bound for Middle East or any Arabic speaking country, on a first-come-first serve basis. The seminar is free.

Onawal Macamimis-Hassan, an AB Islamic Studies graduate of the Women College of Arts in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and currently an Arabic teacher of the Department of Education in Central Visayas will handle the seminar.

J-POP anime singing contest

THE Japanese embassy in the Philippines is inviting all Japanophiles and music enthusiasts to showcase their singing prowess in this year’s J-Pop anime singing contest in celebration of the 2012 Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

The contest is open to all Filipino amateur singers composed of one to a maximum of ten members.

Participants from all age group are accepted.

Japanese nationals are allowed to join provided they are part of a group and play supporting roles in the group like instrumentalists or back-up vocals or dancers and do not exceed more than half the number of group members.

Participants may choose either of the two set-ups: play their own musical instrument or perform a capella.

Minus-one performances is also allowed provided that the music accompaniment comes from an original music CD.

Application forms are available at the Japan Information and Culture Center Library, Embassy of Japan in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City or can be downloaded at www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp.
