MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should be content and no longer eye for a term extension after his six-year rule, according to former chief executive Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

During a Sunday evening rally in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Duterte again aired his opposition to the government’s ongoing push for a Charter change (Cha-cha).

In his speech, Duterte likewise told Marcos to appreciate the chance given to him by the Filipino people, even after what happened during the term of his late father—former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

“Mr. President, be happy and finish your term for six years,” Duterte said during a rally held in Davao del Norte on Sunday evening.

‘Be content’

“Be content that God gave you a chance to serve the country as president despite or despite bad history during your father’s term. Still, Filipinos gave you understanding,” he added.

Similarly, Duterte warned the chief executive last March 12 against following in his father’s footsteps, saying he should “not dream of extending his term.”

In February of this year, Marcos expressed his support for amending the 1987 Constitution, but only on its economic provisions since these amendments are “strategically aimed” at boosting the country’s economy.

However, Duterte believes that economic provision is the “usual excuse” to pave the way for amendments to other provisions.
