SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — At least eight active and former communist rebels in Central Luzon surrendered to authorities in the past few days, police said on Friday, April 12 .

In a statement, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) identified them as “Ka Jomar,” a former Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda member under the Josefino Corpuz Command, who turned in a homemade unserviceable.38 caliber revolver with live ammunition; “Ka Ivy,” a former member of Iskwad Primera Platoon Sentral of Bagong Hukbong Bayan, who surrendered ammunition and explosive materials; and “Ka Jayjay,” a former member of Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda Bataan-Zambales, who handed over firearms and explosives.

The others were identified as “Ka Orna,” a former member of Bayan Muna, who possessed explosive materials; “Ka Berting,” a former member of Guerrilla-Tarlac-Zambales, who turned over his firearms and antigovernment documents; “Ka Lenlen,” a former member of Pambansang Katipunan ng Magsasaka, “Ka Gabriela,” a member of Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan, who surrendered an improvised submachine gun; and “Ka Usting,” a member of Aguman Dareng Maglalautang Capampangan.

Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr., PRO3 director, these rebels surrendered between April 4 and April 11 as a result of the ongoing efforts of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or RTF-ELCAC.

“The Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines continue to encourage all remaining supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army to return to the government fold and unite for a terrorism-free nation,” Hidalgo said. INQ
