WBC silver minimumweight titlist Denver “The Excitement” Cuello of Iloilo was one of the interested ringside spectators watching the Brian Viloria-Omar Nino Romero WBO flyweight title bout at the Ynares Sports Center.

Cuello was scheduled to leave for Mexico yesterday for his WBC elimination bout against Mexico’s Ganigan Lopez (20W-4L, 14 KOs) in Guanajuato on May 20.

Cuello (30W-4L-6D, 20 KOs) said he is ready for his bout.

Mayol, the former WBC light flyweight champion from Mandaue City, scored a one-sided unanimous decision win over Julio Cesar Miranda yesterday.

Tapales, is a rising prospect from the RWS Gym in Labangon, Cebu City.

“I know I need to win convincingly in Mexico,” Cuello added. “I will try to win by knockout.”

The 25-year-old Cuello is no stranger to scoring knockouts in Mexico. Last year, he stopped Mexicans Sebastian Arcos in three rounds and Carlos Perez in one round, both fights held in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

His promoter and manager Aljoe Jaro was also confident about his boxer’s chances. The winner between Cuello and Lopez will be in line for a world title shot. The reigning WBC minimumweight champion is Kazuto Ioka of Japan. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre jr.
