Magnitude 6.7 quake strikes off Balut Island, Davao Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off Balut Island in Davao Occidental late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The earthquake occurred at 5:48 p.m., 368 kilometers (kms) southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Phivolcs said.
It had a depth of focus of 10 kilometers, and was tectonic in origin.
Instrumental intensities were felt in the following areas:
Intensity II – Malungon, Sarangani
Intensity I – Alabel, Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental;

No tsunami threat
Despite its location, no tsunami threat was also issued by Phivolcs.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” said Phivolcs in an advisory.
