PNP: Over 60,000 cops, volunteers tapped for summer security

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed over 60,000 police officers and volunteers to commercial areas, transportation terminals and hubs nationwide to ensure public safety during the dry / summer season. 

In data sent to INQUIRER.net on Tuesday, the PNP-Public Information Office said this deployment aligns with the organization’s  “Ligtas Sumvac (Summer Vacation) 2024” campaign. 

As of April 8, the PNP said a total of 63,729 personnel, including 28,132 force multipliers and members of volunteer groups from government agencies have been deployed in places of convergence.

Around 7,000 police officers would also be deployed in tourist areas like resorts and rivers to monitor the deployment of lifeguards and ensure public safety.

Earlier, the PNP said this figure may still change depending on the recommended security deployment of PNP regional offices.
