MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed a petition filed against the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for failure to substantiate allegations, among others.
The said petition—for mandamus, certiorari, and prohibition—was filed by Kilusan ng Mamamayan Para sa Matuwid na Bayan (KMMB) against Comelec, accusing the poll body of failing to issue implementing rules and regulations for some of the crucial safeguards in the conduct of automated elections as required by the law.

Further, they alleged that Comelec promulgated several of its resolutions involving election automation laws without undertaking mandatory public consultation.
However, Comelec in a statement, said the SC dismissed the petition “due to procedural infirmities, lack of personal and substantial interest to warrant legal standing, and failure to substantiate the allegations.”
The high court cited procedural defects in the petition and explained that the petitioners failed to substantiate its allegations against the poll body.
“With the failure of the Petitioners to rectify their procedural infirmities and show Comelec’s failure to comply with the requirements of Republic Act No. 9369 [Poll Automation Law of 2010], the Supreme Court dismissed the petition,” the poll body quoted the SC in saying.
