MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed on Sunday to address the traffic congestion within Metro Manila by developing nearby areas and provinces besides advancing the country’s transportation system.

In a vlog posted on Marcos’ official YouTube page, the chief executive said that providing equal opportunities outside the National Capital Region would be among the solutions that would address the traffic problem within the metropolis.

“While the construction of our bridges, flyovers, skyways, subways, train systems, and other infrastructure continue, our population and vehicles are also increasing,” Marcos said.

“Metro Manila is congested. That’s why we are planning to develop nearby areas and cities. We want to develop Bulacan, Pampanga, Northern provinces, Cavite, Laguna, and other Southern provinces,” he added.

Patience

However, Marcos asked the public for patience, saying that these projects would take time to finish and alleviate the country’s traffic dilemma.

In the meantime, he advised the public to observe traffic rules and maintain discipline when driving. Marcos likewise assured motorists that government officials will take the lead in following road etiquette and regulations.

“It is not in our oath as public officials to violate traffic rules. The government will lead all agencies in being disciplined while on our roads,” the President said.
