CEBU CITY, Philippines—The son of Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura was shot dead while dancing with his friends during a village disco in Barangay (village) Valladolid, Carcar, about 40 kilometers south of this city, early Sunday.

Carl Vinson Apura, 25, suffered from a bullet wound in the head, fired by a lone gunman who approached him as he was having fun with his friends at 1:15 a.m., Sunday, in Sitio (subvillage) Upper Tubod, Valladolid, which was celebrating its fiesta in a party that started Saturday night.

The victim’s friends and relatives took him to Carcar City Emergency Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

FEATURED STORIES

Police Officer3 Vicente Garces Jr., Carcar City police desk officer, said Carl Vinson was hit in the left side of the head, and the bullet exited to the right side.

Not one witness could give a description of the gunman since the lights during the disco were dimmed, he added.

Garces said the police had yet to determine the caliber of gun used since the investigators didn’t recover any slug or empty shell.

He said they were looking into the possibility that the killing was related to conflict among warring fraternities since Carl Vinson was a member of Alpha Kappa Rho (Akhro) fraternity.

It was possible that the gunman belonged to the rival fraternity, he added.

But lawyer Clarence Paul Oaminal, an Akhro member, urged the police to dig deeper into the killing and look at other angles since the conflict between Akhro and rival fraternity Tau Gamma Phi had long been resolved.
