Manila Water, CANVAS, One Ayala promote water’s value via ‘Waterscapes’ exhibit
Manila Water, CANVAS, One Ayala and Manila Water Foundation, present Waterscapes: An art exhibit for World Water Day. Waterscapes seeks to use art to help raise awareness and appreciation for water, an often taken-for-granted resource that plays an outsized role in the environment, economy and ultimately, preserving life on Earth. The exhibit features commissioned water-themed pieces created by over 100 prominent and up-and-coming local artists.
MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of World Water Day 2024, Manila Water, with its social development arm Manila Water Foundation, and partners CANVAS – Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development – and One Ayala, held an art exhibit entitled “Waterscapes”.
Waterscapes, the 16th edition of CANVAS’ Art for Development Outdoor Banner Project, seeks to use art to help raise awareness and appreciation for water, an often taken-for-granted resource that plays an outsized role in the environment, history, economic prospects, and future of our nation.
Present during the ribbon cutting ceremony were Manila Water President and CEO Jocot De Dios, National Artist Ben Cabrera, Makati City 2nd District Rep. Luis Campos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, CANVAS Executive Director Gigo Alampay, MWSS Regulatory Office Deputy Administrator for Administration and Legal Affairs Claudine Orocio-Isorena, Manila Water Foundation Executive Director Reginald Andal, and One Ayala Marketing Manager Mela Lasangue.
More than one hundred local artists were invited to share their interpretations and reflections on the essence of water – its fluid grace, its reflective calm, and its life-sustaining force – and to incorporate water-related elements into their respective artworks.
Each piece, then, is a confluence of creativity and advocacy.
In late April, images of these artworks will be used to create art banners that will be installed at the future site of CANVAS’ Tumba-Tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art in Ibaan, Batangas; as well as in other pedestrian-friendly venues to bring both the art and the theme closer to the public in non-intimidating, and more relaxed environments.
The exhibition will run until April 4, 2024 at the Concourse, 2nd Level of One Ayala Mall in Makati City.
