MANILA, Philippines — Almost 4,000 schools nationwide have implemented alternative delivery modes (ADM) of learning on Wednesday to combat the high heat index being felt in the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Wednesday.
According to data from the DepEd, there are 3,954 schools throughout the country have used ADM instead of face-to-face classes to protect children from the effects of heat.

This translates to 1,393,806 learners affected, the DepEd’s data said.
Below are the number of schools per region which have used ADM, according to its data:
- Region I – 581
- Region II – 3
- Region III – 199
- Region IV A – 32
- Region IV B – 87
- Region V – 148
- Region VI – 990
- Region VII – 694
- Region VIII – 162
- Region IX – 74
- Region XII – 801
- NCR – 183
Since the beginning of April, some local government units nationwide have suspended classes, citing the high heat index.

Some provinces have also reached the “danger” category in the heat index classification of the state weather bureau, which means that exposure may lead to heat-related conditions, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.
