PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — The administration of the Palawan State University (Palawan SU) announced on Monday, April 1, that it will implement a hybrid classes schedule beginning Wednesday, April 3, and that its employees and students may opt not to wear their uniform and, instead, don comfortable clothes.

The advisory was issued by the university due to the extreme heat being experienced in the province and the city as indicated by the heat index report by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The suspension of wearing uniforms applies to all campuses throughout the province from April 2 until the 30th.

The advisory said students and teachers may wear clothes that are both comfortable and suitable for them, “adhering to the stipulations set forth in Civil Service Commission memorandum no. 19, series of 2000.”

The university will also implement a hybrid classes schedule on all campuses “in consideration of the well-being of students and faculty affected by an extreme heat condition being experienced” in the province from April 3 to 14.

The announcement also instructed chairpersons of the departments and college secretaries to monitor online classes to ensure the attendance of faculty members during the classes.

The conduct of hybrid classes may be suspended or extended depending on the necessity and the discretion of the university president.

The announcements were based on the Office of the University President (OUP) Memorandum Circular (MC) nos. 1216 for the suspension of wearing of uniforms and 1252 for the implementation of hybrid classes, dated April 1 and 2, respectively.
