MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) said on Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the conduct of research and development for renewable energy (RE).
According to the DOE, the research will use the Renewable Energy Trust Fund provided in Republic Act No. 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act.

The MOA will involve the DOE and the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development in collaborative projects for harnessing renewable technologies such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy, among others.
The agreement is also expected to commercialize renewable energy technologies and boost the green economy.
“By joining forces with the DOST, we aim to leverage our collective strengths and resources to drive innovation and overcome technical, economic, and policy challenges to facilitate the widespread adoption of RE technologies,” DOE Secretary Raphael Lotilla said.

The research gleaned from the agreement may also help lawmakers craft measures involving renewable energy, the DOE added.
