Magnitude 4.2 rocks Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-4.2 earthquake hit near the waters of Mamburao municipality in Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to the state seismologist, the temblor occurred at 2:36 p.m. located 19 kilometers (km) southwest of Mamburao.

It was tectonic in origin, with a depth of focus of 20 km.

Phivolcs said that instrumental intensity III was logged in Mamburao. Meanwhile, intensity II was recorded in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro, and intensity I was detected in Abra de Ilog municipality in Occidental Mindoro and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro.

Instrumental intensity is measured by an intensity meter or scale.

The state seismologist said that no aftershocks or damage to property are expected from the quake.
