Garcia-Garcia ticket for Cebu?

/ 08:00 AM May 13, 2012

I just got this information in a discussion with some friends: It  is possible that Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia would  run for vice governor if incumbent Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale seeks reelection with former councilor Junjun Davide III as gubernatorial candidate.

But what would happen  to Gwen’s declaration  that she is running for a Senate seat under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)  ticket of Vice President Jejomar Binay?

I think a vice gubernatorial bid and a possible congressional bid in the 3rd district are back up plans that give  Governor Gwen  wider leeway for her political plans. Her transfer of voter’s registration from Dumanjug town in the 2nd district to Barili town in the 3rd district  opens the possibility that she would run for a seat in the House of Representative.

She is also qualified to run for Cebu vice governor. Now would it  be  palatable to voters in  the Province of Cebu to have a Garcia-Garcia tandem, when she runs with her brother PJ Garcia for the two top Capitol posts?

FEATURED STORIES

That’s something the Garcia clan should seriously consider. They may test the waters first to check  if this ticket is acceptable to the people. I believe  Gwen Garcia is highly qualified to run for vice governor but for the people of Cebu, this  may leave a bad taste.

In the 6th district, now that Rep. Luigi Quisumbing has transferred to the  Liberal Party, who would be his challenger in a reelection bid?

The logical choice for the One Cebu party there is Provincial Board Member and former Mandaue City mayor Ted Ouano. It would be  an political battle royale between two political stalwarts in the 6th district.

However, the Ouano clan will not be united in the 2013 election. With  Lollipop Ouano Dizon now with the Liberal Party of Mayor Jonas Cortes, is her  father  Ted Ouano far behind?

In the national front, many have acknowledged the popularity of Vice President Binay  but his politicking come too early. Many believe that a formidable force will surface in 2015 to contest the presidency as an alternative choice to Binay. Binay may be popular today but as the  2016 presidential race nears,  Binay will be exposed and his record in public service will be examined closely by the people, especially his track record and performance when it comes to graft and corruption.

The brawl that happened earlier this week in the Ninoy Aquino Internationa Airport shocked many as it involved a media personality Mon Tulfo and movie personalities Raymart Santiago and Claudine Baretto.

The mauling  started when Mon Tulfo took photographs with his cellphone of an airport scene where  Claudine was scolding the  ground stewards of Cebu Pacific Airways over  her offloaded baggage.

Raymart resented the impromptu picture taking and asked for Mon Tulfo’s cell  phone. Beyond that point, nobody has a clear picture  of who started the commotion that resulted in Tulfo being beaten up by Raymart and his companions.

Each camp is accusing the other of causing  the violence. Threatening words were issued by the  Tulfo brothers in their own TV program against the Santiagos.

It is hoped that  authorities could help diffuse the tension between both groups.  By the way Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is making herself available to mediate between the two parties but I don’t know if the door is still open for reconciliation since criminal cases have been filed against each other.
