PNP logs 37 Holy Week deaths due to drowning

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it recorded thirty seven deaths due to drowning in beaches and rivers during the Holy Week (March 24 – 31).

Most of the cases occurred in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Lagiuna, Batagas, Rizal, Quezon) region, Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Western Visayas.  

From January 1 to March 28 this year, PNP reported that 212 individuals died due to drowning.

The same data also revealed that these incidents mostly happened in rivers, followed by beaches.

Aside from drowning, PNP also recorded 17 vehicular accidents during the Holy Week, which resulted in nine deaths and 26 injuries.

Calabarzon has the most recorded vehicular accidents with four followed by Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Bicol region with three each.
