Tourist cops
The Police Regional Office chief is planning to set up more Tourist Protection Units in Central Visayas.
Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr., Police Regional Office 7 chief, said yesterday that he wanted at least 200 more policemen to focus on tourist protection especially in Lapu-Lapu City and Bohol.
He said he was only waiting for Camp Crame to allocated a budget for his plan.
Garbo said he wanted Tourist Protection Units similar to that of Cebu City’s unit, who handles problems of foreign tourists such as those victims of petty crimes.
He said the TPUs would help make tourists feel safer staying in Central Visayas. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
Women thieves
Two Koreans lost P27,000 in cash to two women whom they brought a Lapu-Lapu City motel.
Jung Hwi Jeong, 37, temporarily residing at Abuno Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City and Yoon Soo Seo, 45, residing at Soong 2 Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City reported the theft to Lapu-Lapu police.
The Koreans told police that they checked in in separate rooms at the motel late Saturday night. Both Koreans fell asleep later. But when they woke up in the morning, they found the women gone as well as the cash in their wallets.
The Koreans said a certain Jojo, who befriended them earlier, introduced them to the two women.

Boat found
Personnel from the Bantay Dagat or Fisheries Sea Ecological Care (Fiseca) are calling on the owner of a green pumpboat found drifting off the waters of Talisay City.
The boat could have been stolen, said Greg dela Torre, Fiseca chief.
Fiseca personnel went to check on the boat after fisherman Roel Racaza informed them about it.
They found the the drifting pumpboat without an engine and a damaged front part.
Dela Torre said the boat however had its propellers and shaft.
He said he believed that the boat was stolen with its new engine as its target.
Dela Torre said it’s the modus operandi of thieves to steal the boat to get the engine, which would usually cost P30,000.
Fiseca took custody of the boat and informed the Talisay police about their find. /Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
