MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as the officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Peralta’s appointment took effect on Sunday (March 31) and was announced by Marcos’ office.
Peralta will replace General Benjamin Acorda Jr, who served as the PNP’s top official for almost a year from April 24, 2023, until March 31, 2024.
Before this appointment, Peralta served as PNP deputy chief for administration, the fourth highest position in the national police organization.
He also became the chief of the Directorate for Operations prior to becoming the deputy chief for administration, the head of the Southern Police District, and Police Regional Office 1 (Ilocos).
According to the memorandum, which was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, his appointment will be effective “until a replacement is appointed” or until otherwise directed by Marcos’ office.
Under Peralta’s leadership, PNP said in a separate statement that they will continue to uphold the principles of Acorda and other previous leaders such as the “Kasimbayanan” concept, among other initiatives.
“We urge all members of the Philippine National Police to rally behind our new Officer-in-Charge and work together towards our shared goals of ensuring the safety and security of our fellow Filipinos. Together, we will uphold the principles of service, integrity, and excellence as we fulfill our duty to serve and protect the Filipino people,” the PNP added.
