LUCENA CITY – Two persons died and 22 other vacationers were injured after the jeepney they were riding crashed into a roadside tree in Lobo town in Batangas on Black Saturday, March 30, police said.

Batangas police reported on Easter Sunday, March 31, that a jeepney driven by Alberto Urriza, 54, with 23 passengers on board, was negotiating a descending curve of the road when the driver lost control of the vehicle in Barangay (village) Malabrigo around 4:45 p.m.

The driver and all his passengers sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital.

However, Urriza and one of the passengers, Virgin Migo, 52, a resident of Santo Tomas City, Batangas, died along the way.

The report said the jeepney passengers came from a beach resort in Malabrigo where they spent their vacation.

The report did not specify if the jeepney, a public utility vehicle, was rented by the vacationers for their trip back home.

The police are conducting further investigation.
