A suspected member of a car theft and robbery gang was killed while one his three other cohorts was arrested by police following a shoot-out on Friday night in Pasay City.

The encounter happened after a policeman spotted a van being used by the suspects that was reported stolen in Quezon City last week, according to the Southern Police District.

The SPD identified the slain suspect as Fortunato Bien Lester Ranoy and the arrested man as Mark Anthony Flores.

The SPD said it recovered the stolen red Chevrolet Captiva van (ZLP-132), a 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition, and a .38-cal. pistol after the incident, as well as two small packets of “shabu.”

A Yamaha Nuvo motorcycle (1998-PE) which was parked next to the van and believed to have been also used also by the suspects was likewise seized.

Supt. Jenny Tecson said an officer first alerted the district’s anticar theft unit when he saw the van parked in the area.

When the police team arrived and approached the vehicle later, the van was already occupied by the four men, who then came out and fired at the police, Tecson said. Nathaniel R. Melican
