MANILA, Philippines – Makati City on Tuesday announced a traffic rerouting plan in part of the city due to roadworks and religious activities from Holy Wednesday, March 27, to Good Friday, March 29.

Below is the list of areas that will be affected, as said in the advisory:

J.P. Rizal Avenue (from Pasong Tirad to Makati Avenue) shall remain a one-way traffic road in the Del Pan direction due to ongoing road excavation and road improvement at the segment from South Avenue to Zapote Street.

The following streets in Barangay Poblacion shall be closed to traffic during and a week before the official Holy Week observance due to the construction of “kubols” (makeshift chapels of various samahan duly recognized by the parish):

q. Zenaida Street (from E. Zobel Street to F. Zobel Street)

r. Bagong Diwa Street (M.L Quezon Street to Pertierra Street)

s. Ma. Aurora Extension Street (from Pertierra Street to Ma. Aurora Street)

t. Osmena Street (from M.L. Quezon Street to Bridge Service Road/P. Burgos Street)

The affected traffic is advised to take alternate routes to their destination, said the lgu.

Meanwhile, here is the traffic rerouting scheme during the hours of Holy Week processions on March 27 and March 29, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.:

Vehicles coming from Guadalupe (Westbound) heading Makati City Hall, The Circuit, and Delpan Street, Manila City

(Light Vehicles Only – Car, SUV)

  • Along J.P. Rizal Avenue (Dist-1): Take a left turn (LT) to Estrella Street; right turn (RT) to Rockwell Drive; RT to Kalayaan Avenue (Dist-1); LT to Makati Avenue; RT either to Jupiter Street or Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue; RT to N. Garcia Street (Reposo Street); and LT to J.P. Rizal Avenue, to the intended destination.

(PUJ, PUVs, Big/Small Trucks – 6 wheels and up)

  • Along J.P. Rizal (below Guadalupe Bridge location): Along J.P. Rizal Avenue, take an LT to West Cloverleaf; RT to EDSA southbound; RT to Sen Gil J. Puyat Avenue, cross Paseo De Roxas Avenue intersection, cross Makati Avenue intersection, RT to N. Garcia Street (Reposo Street) and LT to J.P. Rizal Avenue to the intended destination.

Vehicles coming from Delpan Street (Eastbound) (Heading to Guadalupe, Pateros or EDSA)

(All Types of Vehicles)

  • Along J.P. Rizal Avenue; RT to Pasong Tirad Street; LT to one-way Kalayaan Avenue; RT to N. Garcia Street, LT to Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, cross Makati Avenue intersection, cross Paseo de Roxas Avenue intersection; RT to EDSA if heading to Pasay City; or take the Buendia flyover which has split separator directions if heading to Kalayaan Avenue, EMBOS and Pasig City; or to EDSA if heading to Mandaluyong or QC areas.

Vehicles coming from Mandaluyong City via the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge, southbound (heading the Ayala District or Makati CBD)

The advisory said that the traffic flow southbound along Makati Avenue heading towards Ayala Center CBD will be open, but motorists may expect a stop-and-go traffic flow during the Holy Procession.

The post said that alternate routes for faster travel from Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge are RT to J.P. Rizal Avenue; LT to Zapote Street, LT to Kamagong Street, RT to Ayala Avenue Ext. cross Ayala Avenue/Sen Gil J. Puyat Avenue intersection to Ayala Center, Makati-CBD or to the intended destination.
