MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Sara Duterte is continuously praying for peace and unity in the country. She enjoined Filipinos to draw inspiration this Holy Week to carry on with “our Godly and democratic aspirations” for the country.

My prayer includes peace and unity for our country,” Duterte said in Filipino in a Lenten message released on Holy Monday.

Duterte also urged Filipino Christians to reflect on Jesus Christ’s sacrifices and good deeds to strengthen their faith.

His pure greatness and love for all of us [are] written in the Bible. This is the reason why He obeyed the will of God the Father to be crucified and offer His life,” she said.

Therefore, I wish that during this period of our meditation, we remember His goodness. Let’s keep His sacrifices in our hearts and minds, and let’s continue to strengthen our faith,” she added.

Holy Week is the most sacred week in the Catholic Church’s liturgical calendar. The flock commemorates events leading up to Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection. It is likewise the time when Christians are encouraged to repent for their sins.
