Struggling Gaisano Tisa-UC wastes 11-point lead, loses anew to Lion Tiger-USJ-R

Games today:

Cebu Coliseum

5 p.m. – Prime Asia-UV vs. Kia Motors-CIT-U

6:45 p.m. – San Marino-USPF vs. Gaisano Tisa-UC

Gaisano Tisa-University of Cebu continued their fall from grace as they surrendered an 11-point lead in the fourth period on their way to losing to the Lion Tiger Aerosol-University of San Jose-Recoletos, 78-68, in the 6th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Partner’s Cup, late Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Gaisano Tisa is being manned by the reigning back-to-back champions in the Cesafi, the UC Webmasters.

However, with their man-mountain 6-foot-10 June Mar Fajardo off to greener pasteurs and with several newbie players scattered all over the current roster, it appears that the Webmasters are in for some tough times ahead.

Their inexperience stood out in their last game against the USJ-R manned Lion Tiger as they got blown away in the fourth canto.

Gaisano was ahead, 65-54, when Lion Tiger ended the game with a sizzling 24-3 run.

Gaisano Tisa succumbed to the pressure that was put on them and cracked with Zaid Quintao getting ejected at the 4:58 mark after punching Lion Tiger’s Kyle Lajato in the gut. That infuriated the Jaguars further as they rattled in point after point after the Webmasters crept to within two, 68-70.

Stocky guard Banjo Capilar hit a three off the left wing and was followed by a freethrow by Abulaiz Suliman and a nifty basket coming off an isolation play by Jayson Olbedado that sealed the win for Lion Tiger as they led, 76-68, with 47.3 seconds left.

Suliman paced the winners with 12 points while Renato Abing had 11.

Gaisano got 12 from Jan Auditor as they fell to 1-5 (win-loss), the same record as their opponents today, the San Marino Corned Tuna-University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers.

The league-leading Prime Asia-University of the Visayas Green Lancers also see action today in the opening game at 5 pm when they face off against the Kia Motors-Cebu Institute of Technology University Wildcats.
