DSWD finishes delivery of aid in provinces recently hit by disasters

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has finished its response mechanisms for the families who were affected by disasters in Sarangani and Surigao del Sur in Mindanao and Northern Samar in Visayas.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has finished its response mechanisms for the families who were affected by disasters in Sarangani and Surigao del Sur in Mindanao and Northern Samar in Visayas.

In its release on Monday, the DSWD said that it gave out P870 million of humanitarian aid for the families in these affected areas.

The DSWD said that those in the Sarangani province who were affected by the magnitude 6.8 earthquake in November 2023 were given P113 in cash aid to more than 13,580 individuals.

On the other hand, families in Surigao del Sur, who were affected by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in December 2023, were given P184 million for around 6,690 people.

Meanwhile, the department added that it gave out P540 million for the families affected by weather disturbances in Northern Samar in November 2023.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said that the department will continue to work with the affected families.

“We assure the public that while our Field Office personnel have already concluded their response efforts in the disaster-struck localities, they will continue to work closely with concerned local government units to ensure the continuous recovery of the affected families,” Lopez said.
